What? Who?
Canicule Tropicale is a musical concept of DJ’s Philippe Noel and DJ Kobal (Jerome Decis), dedicated to the sounds of tropical, Caribbean, Latin and Afro-influence musical genres, a mesmerizing and crowd-pleasing selection that keep audiences on the dance-floor. The DJ’s share their keen knowledge and vast collection of rare vinyl and obscure selections that reveal the universal seduction of rhythm from traditional instruments and vocals of the afro-latin diaspora. They highlite music from the golden era of far reaching musical cultures.
Philippe Noël’s passion for music and traveling have kept him crossing the globe in search of the music from the Caribbeans, Africa, South America and beyond. He spearheaded the Canicule Tropicale nights in 2009 which lead to the hugely successful Canicule Tropicale series at the 2011 edition of Montreal Jazz Festival. His attention to detail and musical history reflects on his impeccable collection of music, always finding something new for his audiences.
Jerome Decis (DJ Kobal) is a household name in Montreal, his hard work spanning 12 years in the city, spinning his selection of jazz, funk, afro beat, salsa, samba, dub and ska rocksteady, to name a few. His diligent work ethic, good taste and passion for his music has been recognized as he has hit numerous charts and magazines, like Straight No Chaser, and various underground readings. He also brought attention to his refined crate digging knowledge through his label Afro Kats.
In 2009, Dj Kobal had the priviledge to be invited by the Montreal Jazz Festival to open for the Stevie Wonder performance on the festival’s main stage.

the angolan stuff is amazing and is a personal favorite of mine right now. exelent selections, sir! tough call with who wins the contest, but im going to have to go with the chico montenegro. softer spoken, really a quiet song, somehow less ends up being more here. thankyou for sharing!
